Authorship and Contributorship Policy of TJEB

1. General Principles

Authorship of a manuscript submitted to TJEB must reflect substantial intellectual contribution to the research and the preparation of the manuscript. This policy establishes criteria for authorship, responsibilities of authors, and requirements for transparent reporting of contributions. All authors are expected to comply with the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement [7].

2. Authorship Criteria

To qualify as an author, an individual must meet all of the following criteria:

  • has made a significant contribution to the conception, design, data collection, analysis, or interpretation of the research;
  • has contributed to drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content;
  • has approved the final version of the manuscript;
  • agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work.

Individuals who do not meet all of these criteria must not be listed as authors.

3. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria;
  • ensuring that no eligible contributor is omitted;
  • obtaining approval of the final manuscript from all co-authors;
  • managing all communication with the journal during submission, review, and publication;
  • ensuring compliance with all journal policies.

Detailed submission responsibilities are further defined in the Guide for Authors [5].

4. Contributorship Statement

Authors must provide a clear statement describing the contributions of each author to the manuscript. The contributorship statement should:

  • specify the roles and contributions of each author;
  • reflect actual involvement in the research and writing process;
  • be consistent with the authorship list.

This statement is required as part of the submission process.

5. Acknowledgement of Non-Author Contributions

Individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section.

Such contributions may include:

  • technical support,
  • data collection assistance,
  • language editing,
  • administrative or logistical support.

Acknowledgement does not imply authorship.

6. Author Order

The order of authors should reflect the relative contribution of each author and must be agreed upon by all authors prior to submission. TJEB does not prescribe a specific method for determining author order; however, authors are expected to ensure that the order is fair, transparent, and mutually agreed.

7. Changes to Authorship

Any change to authorship (addition, removal, or reordering of authors) must be:

  • requested by the corresponding author;
  • justified with a clear explanation;
  • accompanied by written consent from all authors, including those being added or removed.

Changes to authorship are permitted only before acceptance. Requests after acceptance will be considered only in exceptional cases and may require editorial approval.

8. ORCID Identification

All authors must provide an ORCID iD to ensure accurate attribution and identification of their work. Additional requirements are specified in the Guide for Authors [5].

9. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

The following practices are considered unethical and are not permitted:

  • Guest (honorary) authorship: listing individuals who did not contribute significantly;
  • Ghost authorship: omission of individuals who made substantial contributions;
  • Misrepresentation of contributions: inaccurate or misleading attribution of work.

Such practices constitute misconduct and will be handled in accordance with the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement [7].

10. Compliance with Journal Policies

All authors must comply with TJEB’s policies, including:

  • Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement [7]
  • Competing Interests / Conflict of Interest Policy [9]
  • Research Ethics / Ethical Oversight Policy [10]
  • Data Availability and Reproducibility Policy [17]
  • AI Use Policy for Authors, Reviewers and Editors [18]
